The AEJ has joined Article 19‘s call for a strong response to Belarus’s criminal kidnapping of journalist Roman Protasevich. Along with 20 other signatories we are also backing a demand that Turkey drop an intimidatory SLAPP lawsuit against Yaman Akdeniz, an expert on legal rights to freedom of expression on the Internet.
The case concerns a Tweet about censorship of reports about criminal investigations and lawsuits against journalists reporting on the Paradise Papers scandal. Prof Akdeniz faces a damages claim of almost 7000 €.
