The London Guardian today published sketchy details of a rare discussion between the Kremlin and Washington about the war in Ukraine. It may allay some fears of an imminent nuclear confrontation.
TASS quoted Vienna-based Russian diplomat Konstantin Gavrilov, a senior security negotiator, as telling Russian television: “Misunderstandings must be cleared up so that there are no accidents … these are always important contacts, and it’s important the Americans were the first to go for it.”
Moscow expected clarification about nuclear deterrence exercises that Nato is carrying out, he said.
