Ukrainian President Zelensky describes conditions in the east of the country as “hell”. Intensifying Russian bombardment had left the Donbas region “completely destroyed”, he said, with intense fighting around the two regional cities of Lysychansk and Severodonetsk. Russia is using artillery, rocket-launchers, and aircraft. Zelensky described a missile strike on a cultural centre near Kharkiv, in which seven people, among them an 11-year-old child, were injured, as “absolute evil, absolute stupidity.”
