AEJ welcomes release of Alan Johnston

Must read

The Association of European Journalists welcomes and celebrates the release of the BBC correspondent Alan Johnston after 114 days of captivity in Gaza. The AEJ was one of many international organisations which had called on those holding him to set him free. The AEJ notes that Alan’s release followed a clear statement about the case of Alan Johnston by a leading Islamic cleric in Gaza, who said: “According to religion… his freedom must be returned to him. Keeping him in captivity is against religious law.” The AEJ re-affirms its support for calls for the release of other journalists and media workers who are being unjustly deprived of their freedom, on whatever pretext, in many parts of the world.
