New AEJ-board elected at congress in Greece

At this year’s General Congress of AEJ in Vonitsa/Greece a new board was elected on December 1st. President Otmar Lahodynsky was voted to stay president with 27 votes. British candidate William Horsley got 20 votes. So Lahodynsky will serve his 3rd and last term of two more years at the head of AEJ.

At the 2018 AEJ General Assembly in Aitoloakarnania the following officers were elected for a 2 years term:

Secretary-General Tibor Macak, Slovakia
Vice-President Saia Tsaousidou, Greece
Vice-President Javier F. Arribas, Spain
Vice-President Oana Enachescu, Romania
Treasurer Luigi Cobisi, Italy
AEJ Media Freedom representative William Horsley, UK
AEJ Representaive for Brussels Lieven Taillie, Belgium
AEJ Fake news representative Irina Nedeva

 

On November 30 in Agrinio two debates took place: “Can Europe remain democratic?” dealt with the many challenges of the EU with Brexit, migration, and the rise of populist forces. “The new media landscape” brought together experts with proposals to fight disinformation and the rising pressures on journalists from politics and owners of media companies. In Greece low wages for journalists contribute to a deterioration of quality journalism.
