Freedom of expression and journalists’ organisations want OSCE states to show commitment to the Media Freedom Representative’s Office

Must read

On 16 February eight leading organisations including the EFJ/IFJ, Reporters Without Borders and Association of European Journalists sent a joint letter of appeal to the decision-making Permanent Council of the OSCE. It urges all States concerned to ensure that a new independent Representative on Freedom of the Media is appointed when the present mandate-holder, Dunja Mijatovic, ends her term on 10 March. Otherwise, the freedom of expression and journalists’ groups express great concern that past progress made in protecting media freedoms will be undermined, with damaging impact on efforts to build stable, tolerant and accountable societies.
