AEJ Honorary Vice President L. Dogan Tılıç visited the Ankara Bureau of Cumhuriyet daily on Monday to express the AEJ’s solidarity with the newspapers and its 9 jailed journalists in a meeting with Erdem Gül, the Ankara representative of the newspaper.
“The Cumhuriyet indictment is a murder of journalism. There journalists are accused for the news they produced, for the headlines of the newspaper and with their commentaries. If someone can be prosecuted and even jailed on the basis of such accusations, no-one can feel safe. AEJ is closely following the case of Cumhuriyet and doing all in its capacity to help the jailed journalists” Tılıç said during the visit.
