The AEJ calls on the Bulgarian authorities urgently to investigate a case of apparent intimidation of a prominent journalist in Varna city who has reported in depth about a controversial development project involving a powerful business corporation.
An alert issued by the AEJ’s Bulgarian Section reports concerns that widespread civic protests against the development of Varna’s biggest park have gone largely unreported for the past three years because of pressures for self-censorship on local news media. It invites the close attention of the national and international media to shed light on the situation in Varna.
