Soner Yalcin, a well-known Turkish journalist, has released a letter written from his Istanbul prison cell where he has been detained in harsh conditions for two years pending trial. Yalcin writes that his only “crime” is to be a journalist who reports the truth about injustices and unresolved killings inside Turkey.
Yalcin’s open letter is accompanied by another from his lawyer, Huseyin, Ersoz, which seeks to awaken the conscience of the world to abuses in Turkey’s judicial system, and intense pressures from the government aimed at suppressing the work of a free press.
