How terrible are the EU election results?

Wild and often deeply pessimistic reactions to the triumph of the Right – especially in France, provoking fresh elections –  on June 10. Some have been very personal and thoughtful, such as this from writer Timothy Garton Ash: “Don’t let anyone tell you the results are ‘not so bad’. The hard-right vote can pull the entire EU to the right, and imperil Ukraine.”
