The Association of European Journalists brings together professional journalists from across Europe committed to defending press freedom, promoting quality journalism, and strengthening European integration through informed public discourse. Founded in 1963, AEJ operates through national sections in multiple European countries.

The Board of Directors of the European Journalists Association – SPAIN Section has unanimously agreed on the appointment of Encarna Samitier, president of 20 Minutos, as the new president of the Association, and José Antonio Zarzalejos, president of the Editorial Board of El Confidencial, as vice president.
The Board has also approved the addition of Amanda Mars, Economic Affairs correspondent for El País; Javier Martín Dominguez, vice president of the AEJ; Amparo Polo, Director of Digital Strategy at Expansión; Ignacio Rodríguez Burgos, head of Economics at Onda Cero; and Juanjo Fernández, chief editor of El Periódico, as new members of the Association’s Board.
Encarna Samitier is the president of 20 minutos, a newspaper she directed from 2017 to 2025, becoming the first woman to lead a national general news outlet in Spain. José Antonio Zarzalejos is the president of the Editorial Board of El Confidencial and one of Spain’s most respected journalists and political analysts. He has a law degree and spent the early years of his career practicing law before moving into journalism. He has also been the director of El Correo and ABC.
The Board of Directors of the Association of European Journalists – Spain Section is made up of Encarna Samitier, president of 20 minutos, as president; Ángeles Blanco, night news anchor for Telecinco, as first vice president; Javier García Vila, director of Europa Press, as second vice president; Xavier Mas de Xaxas, diplomatic correspondent for La Vanguardia, as third vice president; José Antonio Zarzalejos, president of the Editorial Board of El Confidencial, as fourth vice president; Miguel Ángel Aguilar, secretary general; José Vicente de Juan, director of the Diario Madrid Foundation, as treasurer;and board members Rubén Amón, contributor to El Confidencial, Antena 3, and Onda Cero; Ángeles Bazán, Weekend News at RNE; Juanjo Fernández, chief editor of El Periódico; Carlos Franganillo, news director at Telecinco; Rafa Latorre, director of La Brújula at Onda Cero and columnist for El Mundo.
Javier Martín Domínguez, international vice president of the European Journalists Association; Amanda Mars, Economic Affairs correspondent for El País; Jesús Morales, director of 20 minutos; Rafael Panadero, La Ventana on Cadena SER; Amparo Polo, director of Digital Strategy at Expansión; Ignacio Rodríguez Burgos, head of Economics at Onda Cero; José Andrés Rojo, journalist at El País; Karina Sainz Borgo, journalist at ABC; and Vicente Vallés, news director at Noticias 2 of Antena 3.
