It would be great to report some better news, but perhaps the best is the clear, independent voice of Russian colleagues working for Meduza. As always, its issue today tells us much about real life in Putin’s dictatorship, and includes a celebration of the work of Oscar-winning film director Daniel Rohrer and of writer Julia Ioffe who supported and still support the work of the late, murdered Alexei Navalny and his widow Yulia – seen here addressing the European Parliament.
Meanwhile Alexander Demidenko, a Russian who helped hundreds of Ukrainians return home before the war, and was accused of treason has died in pre-trial imprisonment, supposedly by suicide.
