To mark World Press Freedom Day on 3 May, several AEJ Sections will hold events honouring journalists who have been killed or persecuted, and take part in debates and campaigning activities, including the media’s role in elections (Armenia), journalists’ struggle for media freedom (Bulgaria and Romania), the outrage of the wrongful jailing of journalists in Turkey , and the role of the European Court of Human Rights in protecting journalists’ rights (UK). The international celebrations in Tunis on May 3 to 5 will be on “New Voices: Media Freedom helping to Transform Society”. The European Parliament in Brussels hosts an AEJ Seminar on 8 May on “Media Freedom in Europe: What can the EU do to help?”
