On 3 May, World Press Freedom Day, AEJ-Bulgaria aired its first original radio show, broadcast by the independent online radio “Zemlyanka”. The programme was wholly dedicated to hot topics from the Bulgarian and European media landscapes, and will continue on a weekly basis from now on.
During the inaugural 3 May show, World Press Freedom Day was featured, with the focus on Bulgarian perspectives on the current challenges to independent journalism. AEJ-Bulgaria also presented the result of its monthly rating of the best and worst examples of the national journalism for April. Special attention was given to the citizen journalism project Global Voices, which recently set up its Bulgarian Section.
As an accent of the radio show, conversations were broadcast with the winners of the previous AEJ-Bulgaria competitions. Our guests were the journalists Doroteya Dachkova from “Trud” Daily, Petya Vladimirova from the online media Dnevnik.bg, Lubomira Konstantinova from the “Hristo Botev” channel of the Bulgarian National Radio as well as the citizen journalist Yanina Taneva. The Association honored their work as examples of independent, well-judged and high-quality journalism with substantial social importance. Together with our collocutors, we discussed the recent problems and positive and negative developments of Bulgarian Media, as well as the overall tendencies in press freedom worldwide.
