24 September 2012: Editors of many of the world’s leading media titles will meet in London on 18 October to consider the industry’s response to the deteriorating safety environment for journalists across the globe. The London symposium is being held at the BBC’s new headquarters and is co-hosted by the UK Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM). William Horsley, CFOM’s international director of CFOM, is also Media Freedom Representative of the AEJ. After the London meeting the UN will convene a special November conference of its own agencies and all stakeholders, in Vienna, to decide how the international community will combat targeted violence against journalists as a priority, as proposed in the UN Plan of Action on Safety and the Issue of Impunity.
