As Honorary President of the Association of European Journalists, AEJ, I protest in
the strongest terms against the completely inappropriate attacks by officials of the
“Democratic Party”on the President of the Albanian section of AEJ, Arber Hitaj.
He quite legitimately protested against the use of Molotov cocktails against journalists
at a recent demonstration of this party in Tirana and demanded the arrest of the
culprit.
I therefore condemn the politically motivated attacks against Arber Hitaj and his
family.
The AEJ’s Albania section has always been politically balanced and in numerous
statements critical of the Socialist government when there have been
violations of press freedom or cases of harassment of journalists.
