On Tuesday March 5, a hybrid event will be held from 09.00 CET in Thessaloniki, Greece, to present the authoritative 2024 Assessment of the State of Media Freedom in Europe, written jointly by all 15 partner organisations of the Council of Europe’s Platform for the safety of journalists, including the AEJ. The publication features cases and recommendations concerning all states where attacks on media freedom and journalists’ safety triggered alerts on the Platform in 2023. I will participate in person.

Launch of the Safety of Journalists Platform 2024 Annual Report

On March 5, the Council of Europe’s Platform to promote the protection of journalism and safety of journalists will publish its 2024 annual report under the title “Press Freedom in Europe: Time to Turn the Tide”.
The report assesses the main threats to media freedom in Council of Europe member states, Russia and Belarus based on the alerts published in 2023 by the 15 media freedom NGOs and journalists’ associations which are partners to the platform.
The partner organisations will present the report at a press conference at the Thessaloniki International Exhibition & Congress Centre. The presentation of the report will be supported by the personal testimonies of journalists Irina Dolinina (IStories), Arianne Lavrilleux (Disclose), Szabolcs Panyi (VSquare, Direct36) and Tasos Telloglu (Inside Story).
The press conference will take place in English.

The press conference will be followed by the round table “Press freedom in Greece- Ways forward and proposals”, organised by the Safety of Journalists Platform of the Council of Europe, the Journalists’ Union of Macedonia and Thrace and the Symbiosis – School of Political Studies in Greece affiliated with the Council of Europe, (1.00 p.m.-2.30 p.m. EET). Media are invited to attend the round table in person.

La Plateforme pour renforcer la protection du journalisme et la sécurité des journalistes publiera, le 5 mars, son rapport annuel 2024 sous le titre « Liberté de la presse en Europe : Il est temps d’inverser la tendance ».
Le rapport évalue les principales menaces qui pèsent sur la liberté des médias dans les Etats membres du Conseil de l’Europe, la Russie et le Bélarus, sur la base des alertes publiées en 2023 par les 15 ONG de défense de la liberté des médias et associations de journalistes partenaires de la plateforme.
Les organisations partenaires présenteront le rapport à lors d’une conférence de presse qui se déroulera au International Exhibition & Congress Centre à Thessalonique. La présentation sera appuyée par les témoignages personnels des journalistes Irina Dolinina (IStories), Arianne Lavrilleux (Disclose), Szabolcs Panyi (VSquare, Direct36) et Tasos Telloglu (Inside Story).
La conférence de presse se déroulera en anglais.

La conférence de presse sera suivie d’une table ronde sur le thème « Liberté de la presse en Grèce – Perspectives et propositions », organisée par la Plateforme pour la sécurité des journalistes du Conseil de l’Europe, l’Union des journalistes de Macédoine et de Thrace et l’École d’études politiques de Grèce affiliée au Conseil de l’Europe (13-14h30 EET).
