In March 2020 the European Commission launched the European News Media Forum  https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/events/european-news-media-forum-safety-journalists on the safety of journalists, part of the next European Democracy Action Plan.

“We are in a tangle of actions, legal proposals, etc. which are difficult to unravel,” says our Brussels special representative Javier Jimenez Moratalla. He is on the case to try to obtain more clarity from the Commission.

On May 4 and 5, he has organised two video-conferences with representatives of DG CNECT https://ec.europa.eu/info/departments/communications-networks-content-and-technology_en which, among its responsibilities, is supposed to provide assistance and financial support in this area.
