AEJ urges the European Union: do more to protect journalists under attack in the wider European area

May 6 2011 – At a Brussels conference on media freedom, Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuehle promised a much tougher EU stance to counter the growing political repression of journalists in Turkey and the countries of South-Eastern Europe. The AEJ Media Freedom Representative William Horsley called on the EU to put its own house in order, and urged European institutions to be much bolder in countering violence and unjust laws and protecting independent journalism from existential threats.
