2009 - European Journalism Prize
In parallel with the “Konstantinos Kalligas Awards”, the European Journalism Prize of the Association (AEJ) was awarded to the well-known Spanish journalist Miguel Angel Aguilar. Mr. Takis Arapoglou, President and CEO of the National Bank of Greece (the sponsor of the AEJ European Journalism Prize), handed over the award to Mr. Aguilar.
Miguel Angel Aguilar has a long career in journalism. Freedom of information and freedom of the press were already very important subjects for him before the restoration of the Spanish democracy. He gave also support to start the free press in former communist countries, especially in Poland. At the moment he has a column in the leading Spanish newspaper El Pais, is commentator on TVE (Spanish television) and member of the editorial board of the influential magazine Europe’s World.
2008 - European Journalism Prize
In a ceremony in the Theodoros Karatzas hall of the National Bank of Greece in Athens, the European Journalism Prize of the Association of European Journalists (AEJ) has been awarded to the Brussels based English journalist Geoff Meade.
